The co-ordinator who runs the Magistrate Court
Coffee Bar is retiring in April and this voluntary
scheme is in urgent need of a replacement.
If you like being around a team of people, meeting
new people, can work well as part of a team and at
the same time are confident enough to manage 6
volunteers, this could be the voluntary role for
you!
Not only is it a regular commitment, but it is fun and rewarding at the same time. If you have team management or catering experience that’s a bonus, but is not essential as full training will be given.
The bar is serves refreshments to people visiting the court and is operated by RSVP, which is the Retired and Seniors Volunteering Programme. However, applicants for this role do not have to be 50+. Apply to the Volunteer Centre asap!
During October our Volunteer Centre took part in
Active Minds Month…encouraging
people of all ages to take up a new hobby or get
involved in some volunteering.
Volunteer Centre Manager, Carole Zorzo, herself a
crafter, helped organise a ‘Try a new Hobby Day’
where over 20 crafters, photographers and
specialised hobbyists gave up a day to encourage
others to try a new hobby.
With funding from South Gloucestershire Council
Active Minds grant, the Volunteer Centre also
organised its own event, by holding an open session
in the library, advising people about volunteering,
as well as arranging taster sessions with 5 local
organisations. We would like to thank the
Citizens Advice Bureau, Yate Learning Difficulties
Club, Yate Heritage Centre, Community Transport and
Oak Tree Care Home for taking part in this
day of voluntary activity. After a morning’s
volunteering both volunteers and organisations were
invited back to the Volunteer Centre for a buffet
lunch. We are pleased to report that the event was a
huge success and three of the organisations went on
to recruit the volunteers.
Volunteer
Centre Yate is supporting the Volunteering England
‘Free Volunteering from Red Tape’ Campaign by
committing to promote and implement best practice
that aims to reduce unnecessary red tape that
affects working with volunteers. We are encouraging
local organisations to sign up to the campaign and
to get in touch with any questions regarding red
tape.
VC Yate also commits to engage with Volunteering England to influence policy making and ensure that current legislation is applied correctly with a view to reduce red tape.

Social
Media for Community Groups
Remember our highly successful Social Media for
Community Groups workshop? We are frequently asked
if we will be willing to repeat it or provide a
follow on?
What do you think? If you were at the last event, would you like to see a ‘sequel’ and if so, what would you like to see included?
If
you didn’t make it to the original workshop...does
it interest you? Would you be interested in
attending if we put a similar event on again?
A reminder! Chris Penberthy hosts our Social
Media event…
