SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE
Millennium Volunteers was set-up in SouthGlos in August 2002 and
currently has a wide range of volunteers from all areas of South Glos.
The project works in partnership with the Yate Volunteer bureaux and is
based in the Voluntary Link office in Yate Library. It’s co-ordinated
by Tracey Jones who is employed to deliver Millennium Volunteers by ‘Young
Bristol Action’ an innovative youth company in Bristol.

WHAT IS MV?
MV is a UK-wide initiative that
encourages young people between
the ages of 16-24 to volunteer in
their community. It was launched in
1999 and has been able to help
thousands of young people gain
valuable new skills while helping others.
HOW DOES MV WORK?
The MV programme helps each Young person work towards achieving
200 hours voluntary work. This can be through work they are already doing
or placements found through MV. They will then receive an award of excellence,
which is a certificate formally recognised by employers, colleges and
universities.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Being able to help others offers extreme personal rewards. However, volunteering can also give young people a chance to develop themselves and their interests, build confidence and self esteem, learn new skills and make new friends.
WHAT IS VOLUNTEERING?
Volunteering is giving up your time to help others without payment. And can cover a wide range of activities such as youth work, arts projects, sports, animal welfare or office and admin work. Each placement is tailored to the young persons interests.
