CASE STUDIES

Case Study One

Ricky, Katie, Elaine and Jason, 4 young people who live in the Hostel in Yate. Decided to redecorate the hostel (which was in much need of repair) as part of their Millennium Volunteers project, so that themselves and others would have a nicer place to live. To be able to do this Millennium Volunteers was able to help them with the expense of providing paint and materials and the hostel provided the expert advice of Colin a local painter and decorator who has been able to offer invaluable advice and expertise so that the young people can learn new skills as well as be able to do an excellent job.

Case Study Two

Ian Wilkins volunteers at ‘The Gateway’ club for 2 hours every Wednesday evening. This is a youth club for young people with special needs and would have difficulty running if it wasn’t for the valuable work that volunteers do. Ian loves helping out at the youth club and has built up some great friendships with the young people who attend. He helps out with organising games and plays and interacts with all the young people and they clearly love him being there. Ian is also on hand to help when the club does days/evenings out. Ian has been volunteering for the last 2 years and decided to use some of his past experience (you can claim up to 50 previous hours) towards his MV certificate.
