Best Buddies is a new project set up by the South
Gloucestershire Volunteer Centres to provide support into
volunteering for adults with learning difficulties. We are
recruiting a small number of volunteers from across South
Gloucestershire to work as Buddies. You will need to be
available for training for 4 half-day sessions during

Leukaemia Care:
CARE
Visitor
CARE
Volunteers provide emotional support to those affected by
Leukaemia, particularly those who have contacted the
helpline. You will be a listening ear, someone they can open
up to: some of the support will be given by telephone,
sometimes face to face.
CARE
visitors also raise awareness of the work of the
organisation and provide information to patients, carers and
medical professionals.

Overnight Support Volunteer
Emmaus is a home for 15 homeless people (companions) who are
provided with a home, work and support. Overnight volunteers
sleep at the home and provide assistance as needed.

Listening Volunteer
Volunteers staff the telephone lines on a rota basis and must
be able to do overnight shifts. You would provide a
listening ear and also respond to callers at the
Bristol
office and provide email support. Full training.

DeafBlind
UK
If you want to work from home and enjoy writing, you could
‘befriend’ a DeafBlind person by writing to them. All
correspondence would be converted to Braille by the charity.
They are also looking for volunteers who can visit and
befriend DeafBlind people, help teach a skill and get
involved with fundraising.

This night shelter for homeless people is open five nights a
week throughout the year and always welcomes new volunteers
to help with various duties

to act as welfare visitors/befrienders for this charity.
Visitors assess circumstances of current and prospective
beneficiaries, as well as listen and befriend. Expenses re-imbursed

needs more
volunteers to carry out direct work with women fleeing
domestic violence in South Gloucestershire. This is a
supporting, befriending role working on a one to one basis |

Befriender – Age Concern South Glos
Volunteers visit an
elderly, isolated person in their home providing
companionship. Volunteers may sometimes be asked to take the
person out shopping or to an appointment |

Carers Help/Befriender – Princess
Royal Trust Carers, South Glos
A Volunteer Visitor
allows a Carer to have a break by sitting with the cared for
person for an hour or two. The volunteer also provides
friendship to a sometimes isolated Carer |

Befriender – Alzheimer`s Society –
South Glos
Volunteers befriend
a Carer and may stay with the carer for person whilst the
Carer has a break |

Ward Visitor – various hospitals
Volunteers are
required in Frenchay, Blackberry Hill, Southmead and BRI to
visit patients who might not otherwise have visitors. They
may also visit the hospital shop for patients etc. |

Visitor – South Glos
The Trust provides
mostly financial support for professional people such as
teachers, nurses, social workers etc who are struggling for
various reasons. Volunteers visit applicants to establish a
friendly relationship with the Trust and determine the help
needed. |

Male Befriender – Alzheimer’s
Society, Kingswood
Volunteers needed to
befriend male clients at the Limes Day Centre. The service
users are younger males between 45 –70. Involves talking,
taking part in activities etc. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays
and Thursdays. |

Womankind – South Gloucestershire
Female volunteers are currently being recruited for the
Spring/Summer training programme. Volunteers befriend a
woman who is experiencing mental health problems.
Befrienders meet Service Users in a mutually agreed place in
the local community and chat or take part in activities
together.
